Taking Your First Steps to Outdoor Fitness

Have you decided to cancel your gym membership and want to take your fitness training out doors?

If you have or considered canceling your membership you're probably trying to figure out, where to start? Well, allow me to help you take your, "First steps to outdoor fitness." Making the decision to exercise outside is not an easy decision to make. Many people who decide to take the plunge and workout outside, find themselves right back in the gym paying too much for all the "extras." The number one excuse people use for not working outside is, not being able to withstand the elements. The second excuse people give for not exercising outside is, not knowing what to do.

Before making the transition to exercise outside, you should have some basic knowledge about exercising. Being familiar with different types of exercise regimens is a great start. When you have made the decision to quit your gym membership, you should consider the follow:

1. Discipline. The first question you should ask yourself is, am I mentally, disciplined enough to workout alone? Working out outside requires mental and self-discipline; this means you will be able to workout by yourself, when your personal trainer is no longer available.

2. Be prepared. The second question that should come to your mind is, do I have everything I need for a successful workout for outdoors; this should include the following: water, a towel, a visor, sunscreen lotion, and or a yoga mat. Water is a necessity for life, so, before doing any type of exercise regimen outside always take enough water!

3. Location. The third question you should ask yourself is, Where should I go to workout? When choosing to exercise outside you can start anywhere at any time. There are public parks that provide exercise equipment with the instructions posted next to them to help assist you.  If you choose to exercise a night, it is wise to notify a friend or family member, take a partner and make sure the location you choose is safe enough for you and your exercise partner.

4. Motivation.  The fourth question you should be asking yourself is, am I motivated enough to do this on my own? Think about the goals you set and the results you want to see, this should be your motivation to continue working out outdoors.

5. Fun. The last and most important question is, will I enjoy what I'm doing? You should choose the types of exercises that you enjoy doing. Having fun is the key component to working out outdoors.
I have just given you your first five steps to working out outdoors. The journey can be long and the environment will provide harsh as well as, pleasant changes but with discipline, motivation and having fun. You will reach your fitness goals in no time.
